Where I Stand
The Hank Greenspun Story

SGP Media – 2008

Produced/Written/Directed by: Scott Goldstein Composers: Elik Alvarez and Freddy Sheinfeld Skills: Music Editorial

Comments:
Narrated by Anthony Hopkins, “Where I Stand” tells the previously untold story of Hank Greenspun, who was one of the last of the fire breathing, give-’em’ hell crusading newspaper publishers.

His exploits included being P.R. man for Bugsy Siegel at the Flamingo Hotel; a convicted heavy arms runner to Palestine during Israel’s War of Independence; and an indictment to incite, through his news column, the murder of Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Using previously classified government records, the film reveals how Greenspun brought Howard Hughes into Las Vegas to buy out the mob and his secret relationship with the billionaire that led to a break-in at his Las Vegas Sun office by the Watergate burglars. The film has won best documentary at numerous film festivals.

Composers Elik Alvarez and Freddie Sheinfeld win GoldSpirit Award
June 2013: Composers Elik Alvarez and Freddie Sheinfeld received the GoldSpirit Award for Best Documentary Score at the International Film Music Festival of Cordoba for their work in “Kingdom of Plants.”

Elik Alvarez:
Venezuelan composer, Elik Alvarez, has managed to capture his audience in his unique compositions for the screen. A dynamic artist with roots in classical, rock and Latin inspired rhythms, Elik brings innovation to each and every project he works on. Pursuing his art with enthusiasm, dedication, and an emphasis on creating an ideal collaboration with filmmakers and fellow musicians, Elik has composed music for a variety of different endeavors.

Some of his most recent works include the documentary “Galapagos 3D,” a massive 3D production starring the legendary Sir David Attenborough to be premiered early 2013. He also wrote and arranged an original piece for William Close’s Christmas album “Earth Harp Collective” and he is currently working on a new Venezuelan feature film: “Papita, Mani, Tostón.”

Among his more unique scores, he wrote the music for the Venezuelan full-length feature film, “La Virgen Negra.” Elik managed to compile an impressive group of talented artists, including the powerful vocal styling of singer, Lisbeth Scott, virtuoso Venezuelan cuatro player, Rafael “El Pollo” Brito, and the vivacious energy of the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra. The success of this score inspired Elik to write a Concert Suite for full orchestra based on the main themes written for the film. Lead by the composer, The Carabobo Symphony Orchestra and Blockflute ambassador Jorge Isaac, premiered the Suite on February 2010 in Valencia-Venezuela. Elik’s composition and charismatic conducting were received with standing ovation from more that 2000 attendees to the concert. Recently the score won the Jury Choice Gold Medal in Excellence for a Feature Film at the Park City Film Music Festival 2011.

His many episodic TV credits include “Secrets of Egypt,” “G.I. Joe Sigma Six,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “The Yugioh Series” and countless work on various specials featured on the Discovery Channel, such as Shark Week Special, “Ocean of Fear: Worst Shark Attack Ever,” narrated by Richard Dreyfuss. Subsequently, Elik was asked to create the music for two short films, “In Our Time” and “Simon Wiesenthal Tribute” that are currently on permanent display at the Museum of Tolerance in LA and NY. In addition, Elik has scored national ad campaigns, including the popular World Cup soccer ad for McDonalds as well as composing the music for Nintendo DS, “George of the Jungle” and the Nintendo Wii Video Game, “Six Flags Fun Park.”

In 2008, Elik was invited to compose and conduct the music for the full-length documentary, “Where I Stand: The Hank Greenspun Story,” portrayed by Academy Award winner, Anthony Hopkins. Receiving rave reviews from the Las Vegas Film Festival, this film has won awards in different film festivals in Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Diego and Denver.
