“Brothers of the Road” is the ninth studio album released by the Allman Brothers band in 1981. The single “Straight From The Heart” peaked at #39 on the US charts. The compilation album “Hell & High Water: The Best of the Arista Years” was released in 1994 and contains tracks from “Brothers of the Road” and the album “Reach for the Sky.”

The Allman Brothers Band was formed in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman and Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson. The group is best known for their Southern Rock style that incorporates elements of blues, jazz and country music.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and has been awarded eleven gold and five platinum albums between 1971 and 2005. In 2004, “Rolling Stone” ranked the Allman Brothers Band #52 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

The group has survived the deaths of founding members Duane Allman and Berry Oakley and have reformed and dissolved several times over the years. In 1989 the Allman Brothers Band reformed with some new members and has been recording and touring since.

Other notable background vocalists on the album were Peter Kingsberry, from the band Cock Robin and Joe Pizzulo who is best known as a lead singer for Sérgio Mendes’ hit “Never Gonna Let You Go.”
