“Shaman King” is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiroyuki Takei. Manga are comics created in or by Japanese creators that conform to a style of cartooning that was developed in Japan in the late 19th century. Manga is popular with people of all ages in Japan.
In Japan, the “Shaman King” manga has sold over 22 million volumes (as of 2007) and the manga and anime have been featured in the top ten in each of their respective media. “Shaman King” follows Yoh Asakura as he struggles to hone his shaman skills to become the Shaman King.
“Shaman King” was licensed in North America by 4Kids Entertainment in 2003 and aired on Fox Box. The series boasts numerous video games, a trading card game and related-merchandise that have also become very popular.
Like most of the 4Kids productions / shows, 8 – 10 episodes are produced with original score / composition. That audio is then given to editors to edit and sometimes compose new music for the remainder of the series.
