Comments:
I grabbed the original CD Single of “Anyone With A Heart” and threw it into my Avid Pro Tools session to have as a production sample. This was mixed by Chris Lord Alge, but I’m not sure who mastered it since I only have the radio promo pre-release version. Needless to say, it was probably good for the times, but I thought I would go ahead and master it. There was such a drastic difference; I felt it worthy to put into the “before and after” category.

This was the same restoring process I went through with my CD with Rick Springfield, “From The Vault,” bringing the many tracks from the 80s and 90s and re-mastering them so that they have a more up to date sound. As with “From The Vault, I paid close attention to the analogue texture of the original final mix and just gave it more punch and sonic presence.

I usually play my own guitars, but on this project I decided to bring in guitarist Tim Pierce who I worked with in Rick Springfield’s band. One of the things I really enjoy is working with professionals like Tim to collaborate with on a project. It gives me the opportunity to come up with ideas that I might not think of myself and vice versa.

I also brought keyboardist extraordinaire, John Philip Shenale into the project. Phil and I played on numerous records together including several by Rick Springfield. We also performed live with Redbone. Shenale is best known for his string arrangements with Tori Amos and as the producer Willy DeVille’s last four records. He has also been featured on albums by Jane’s Addiction, Tracy Chapman, Billy Idol, Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, The Bangles, Dionne Warwick, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and John Hiatt to name a few.
